ANGUILLA, Miss. — Authorities have identified Demario Conner Jr., 19, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Friday night in Sharkey County, Mississippi.
The shooting took place in the town of Anguilla, where Conner was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sharkey County Coroner Robert Barfield Jr. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
In a statement released Saturday morning, the Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that two suspects are currently in custody in connection with the incident. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and are asking the public to assist with the investigation.

Conner was a former standout football player at South Delta High School, where he was well known for his athletic talent and leadership on the field. He graduated in 2025 and later that year signed a football scholarship to play at Mississippi Delta Community College, marking a promising future in collegiate athletics.
News of Conner’s death has sent shockwaves through the South Delta community, with former teammates, coaches, and friends remembering him as a dedicated athlete with a bright future ahead. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the motive or circumstances of the shooting as the investigation continues.
